REDARC’s range of BCDC Alpha chargers come standard with battery temperature probes to provide the user with battery temperatures and the ability to augment charging parameters against temperature extremes.
Through research and consultation with battery manufacturers, REDARC have developed battery specific charging algorithms that maximise battery performance and extend battery life, while staying aligned with manufacturers recommendations. When the BCDC Alpha Battery Temperature probe is installed, the following battery temperature limitations are upheld.
If you need to charge an AGM auxiliary battery in a location where temperatures may exceed the 60°C (140°F) maximum i.e. like that of an engine bay environment, disconnect and remove the BCDC Alpha Temperature probe. The BCDC Alpha will then revert to its internal temperature sensor, similar to the BCDC Classic. The BCDC Alpha will then allow for battery charging at temperatures as high as ~85°C (185°F). However, as the temperature of the charger surpasses ~55°C (131°F), the charging current gradually decreases to protect the battery and charger, resulting in a maximum output of ~15 amps at ~80°C (176°F).
