Why is my Manager30 displaying -40°C and not charging my battery?

The Manager30 may display –40°C on the Manager30 or RedVision monitors if the battery sensor is disconnected or faulty.

In this state, the system will not charge the secondary battery. The issue is usually caused by damaged wiring or a failed temperature sensor. Troubleshooting involves performing a hard reset by disconnecting all power sources, removing and reconnecting the battery sensor and green connector, then reconfiguring the system.

REDARC recommends seeking the support of a qualified auto electrician or technician.

Why is it displaying -40°C?

The Manager30 utilises a battery sensor assembly which monitors battery vitals including battery temperature. If the battery sensor becomes disconnected the temperature reading defaults to –40°C.

Will the battery management system still charge my battery in this condition?

As the Manager30 thinks the battery is -40°C, it will not charge the secondary battery until this problem is rectified.

What can cause this symptom?

The most common cause is from damaged battery sensor wiring or a damaged temperature sensor.

How to confirm if the battery sensor is faulty?

Important

In this article we explain the need for testing to determine the cause of the issue. Testing may involve changes to the installation or wiring. For your safety and accuracy, REDARC recommends engaging a REDNetwork member or a suitably qualified auto electrician - Find Your Local Installer

Perform a hard reset procedure on the Manager30 including a removal and reconnection of the sensor.
